My Journey: From Circuits to Consciousness
“Can machines think, or only calculate?”
This philosophical puzzle has been the undercurrent of my journey through engineering and computer science. Every spark of current I’ve created has illuminated this question, driving me from the precision of electronics to the complexity of artificial intelligence.
The Beginning: Building Foundations
My journey began with a B.Tech. in Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, where I first merged hardware and software to create intelligent systems. During my undergraduate years, I designed an AI-powered parking system that would later be deployed as part of the Patna Smart City initiative—my first taste of seeing research transform into real-world impact.
But what truly captivated me was human augmentation. I designed an AI-integrated robotic exosuit prototype to assist industrial workers with lifting heavy objects. This passion project would eventually earn a patent and become a cornerstone of my research vision: creating technology that doesn’t replace humans but empowers them.
Industrial Innovation: Theory Meets Reality
After graduation, I joined Bihari Construction, where I spent three years implementing AI in practical settings. This wasn’t just about writing code—it was about deploying the parking system in real-world conditions, conducting field tests of the exosuit in industrial environments, and learning that the gap between laboratory success and field deployment is where true innovation happens.
This period taught me that technology must serve people, not just impress peers. I witnessed firsthand the challenges of construction site safety in India, where over 11,000+ workers die annually. These experiences cemented my determination to build AI systems that protect and enhance human capability.
Academic Excellence: Deepening Expertise
In 2023, I pursued an M.Sc. in Computer Science at the University of Liverpool, graduating with Distinction (72%). While teaching as a Teaching Assistant and Lecturer, I observed the limitations of one-size-fits-all education. This inspired me to create an AI-powered interactive learning platform with real-time chat assistance and voice interaction—developed in early 2023, even before OpenAI introduced its voice mode. The innovation earned a patent and reinforced my commitment to accessible AI.
My research portfolio expanded rapidly:
- Stock Price Forecasting System: Using Facebook’s Prophet and advanced regression techniques
- Semantic-Search Chatbot: Combining GPT-3.5 with DistilBERT encoder, achieving 40% faster response times
- Multimodal Translation Framework: Improving translation accuracy for low-resource Indian languages by 20%
Current Work: At the Frontier
Today, as a Full-Stack AI Engineer at Mercor, I work with leading frontier AI labs and emerging generative AI startups. My responsibilities span prompt engineering, model evaluation, RLHF, quality assurance pipelines, and fine-tuning support. I’ve contributed to production-grade AI systems deployed at scale, learning the nuances of commercial AI development.
Recently, I made a significant open-source contribution to Astropy (4.3k+ stars), fixing a 14-year-old FITS standard compliance bug that had existed since 2011. My code is being merged into version 8.0.0, demonstrating my ability to navigate complex codebases and contribute to foundational scientific infrastructure.
Innovation & Impact: Patents & Publications
My work has resulted in three patents:
- Artificial Intelligence Integrated Robotic Military Suit (2024) - Shortlisted by DRDO for military use
- User Interactive Assistive Learning Educational Content Generation AI Platform (2023)
- Industrial Load Lifting Robotic Arm Exosuit (2021)
I’ve also published research on deep learning innovations in automated breast cancer detection and contributed to various AI-driven systems across healthcare, education, and industrial automation.
Vision: Building the Future
I stand at the intersection of three passions:
1. Autonomous AI Systems: Developing scalable, robust AI that reasons and adapts, moving beyond calculation to something approaching thought.
2. Human-Machine Synergy: Creating AI-integrated wearable systems and exosuits that enhance human ability in industrial, defense, and medical settings. Imagine a paraplegic walking again, or an astronaut working seamlessly in extreme environments.
3. Entrepreneurial Innovation: Translating deep research into meaningful startups that solve real problems—from construction site safety to accessible education in underserved communities.
The Bigger Picture
In India, over 90,000 government schools have closed, leaving millions without access to quality education. Construction sites remain dangerous, with inadequate safety measures. These aren’t just statistics—they’re human lives that technology can transform.
Through AI tutors, I aim to offer personalized learning at minimal cost. Through intelligent exosuits, I hope to drastically reduce workplace injuries while increasing productivity. Through open-source contributions and AI policy frameworks, I want to ensure emerging economies benefit from AI advancement.
Technical Expertise
My toolkit spans the full AI stack:
- LLM & Agent Development: LangChain, RAG pipelines, OpenAI APIs, Pinecone, prompt engineering
- Full-Stack Development: React.js, Next.js, TypeScript, Python (FastAPI, Flask), Node.js
- ML & Deployment: TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers, vector stores, Docker, AWS, GCP
- Research: Binary I/O, specification compliance, multimodal learning, semantic search
Looking Ahead
Every line of code I write, every system I design, circles back to that original question: Can machines think? Perhaps the answer lies not in making machines that think like humans, but in creating human-machine partnerships that transcend the limitations of both.
I’m driven by the belief that AI should elevate humanity—making us safer, smarter, more capable. Whether it’s through exosuits that give workers superhuman strength, AI tutors that democratize education, or algorithms that help doctors detect disease earlier, I want to build technology that empowers lives.
The journey from circuits to consciousness continues, and I’m just getting started.
